Hotel Room Master Switches
Generally, we try to keep our Europe envy in check. (Really, who needs universal health care or perfect croissants?) But, as the NYT points out, the Continent has a leg up on us when it comes to one simple — but genius — eco lodging solution: hotel rooms that let guests control (and conserve) power via a master switch. (In other words, you cut everything from lights to TV with the flick of a wrist.) A Starwood VP says Americans are too finicky to forego the dubious pleasure of entering a room with the lights glaring and the air pre-blasting — but especially after shivering in a string of hotel rooms this summer, we vote to give AC peace a chance.

We seriously need to learn to not be idiots. You would think it wouldn't be too hard, especially in New York. How long could it possibly take to cool down a hotel room?
