It Yurts, Don't It?
Ecoshack Nomad Yurts
Thanks in large part to Bono, Joshua Tree has a mythical status in our collective imagination. So it seems perfectly fitting that architect Stephanie Smith’s Nomad Yurts spring forth from her Mojave desert workshop and green building lab. The billowing portable structures (which use bamboo and a non-toxic waterproof coating) cozily fit up to twelve and have been snapped up by everyone from eco hoteliers to summer event planners. Although originally created for commercial use, the yurts are available for residential use — and, perhaps not surprisingly, come with bulk discounts for anyone looking to start a commune.
