FRIDAY JUN 26

Bad Company

Food, Inc.

Corn is evil. If you’ve ever read Michael Pollan, then you know this. We’re talking Darth Vader, T-1000, pets a skinless cat kind of evil. Corn is in everything we eat and use. And, this is because the USDA and FDA allow corporations to do whatever it takes to turn the crop (all parts of the crop) into profit – even though the processing produces bacterium that get 73,000 Americans sick each year. But, corn isn’t the only villain. Robert Kenner, with the help of Pollan and Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), conducts a formidable witch-hunt for everyone responsible for the state of our food today. And, he does a great job of exposing and interconnecting them. Again, if you’ve read Pollan or Schlosser, none of this is shocking. But, this film is the perfect example of how an image can be worth a thousand words. Go see it, even if you know the plot.
